Technical Sound Designer and Composer

Will Bishop (aka Groovin’ Apple) (b. 1997) is a video game audio programmer, sound designer, and composer based in Austin, TX. He holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Composition from the University of North Texas and has worked professionally in game audio since 2020.

Will served as a technical sound designer for Retro Studios for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond for nearly 3 years. During his time with Retro Studios, he has become very proficient in Retro's proprietary tool environment, and has been primarily responsible for building dynamic systems for ambient audio and player systems, integrating environmental audio and UI audio, collaborating with engineers to create new tools and technologies to aid in development, and working directly with the game’s composer to integrate their music into the game. He also designed and integrated controller haptics, aided in creature audio integration, and designed environmental audio.

Prior to this role, Will also provided sound design and audio programming for the indie games Ari's Journey and Hamster Scramble, and the mobile game Catalyst Black. He is proficient at working in Unreal and Unity, as well as Wwise and FMOD, and can quickly pick up proprietary tool environments. As a composer, he has produced two albums, and provided arrangements for the Metroid fan Album Harmony of a Hunter: Returns.

Currently, Will does freelance and in-house sound design and integration work on games, both in the AAA and indie spaces. If you need sound design, music, or audio programming for your game, use the contact button to reach out to me, and I can help bring your vision to life!
